Rx Herbal Medicine

Whether you or your family is already sick, or if you want to prevent getting sick, take advantage of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine as a solution, and stay OUT of the doctor's office this winter.

Here are some common Prescription Herbal Medicine Formulas and what they treat, as well as some powerful and effective HOME REMEDIES you can use for seasonal sickness and allergies:

Commonly- Prescribed Herbal Medicine for Seasonal Colds & Flu:

  • Yu Ping Feng San- this formula is great to strengthen Lung Qi, preventing the onset of Colds and Flu, before sickness sets in. Best taken as a preventative and to keep asthma at bay.

  • Astragalus (Huang Qi)- this single herb is very powerful to tonify the Lungs and fight off bacterial infections that cause URI's. This can also be taken as a preventative, especially if there is a history of recurring colds and flu. It also acts like and herbal antibiotic.

  • Yin Qiao San- a very effective formula if caught at the beginning of sickness when there is sore throat, fever, and body aches

  • Xiao Qing Long Tang- this is a stronger formula for later-stage colds and flu, when there is fever and chills, cough, and heavy congestion

  • Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin- this is a very powerful herbal antibiotic/ antiviral formula that can treat sickness that has progressed farther in severity,  strep throat.

There are MANY more prescription Herbal Medicines, for a huge variety of symptoms that present during colds and flu. During your treatment, I will assess exactly which formula is best for YOU and the exact symptoms you are having.

HOME REMEDIES you can use to PREVENT and treat EARLY-STAGES of seasonal colds and flu:

  • GET WARM- at the very 1st sign of an cold or flu, take a HOT bath and wrap up in a blanket....you want to make yourself sweat! But not for too long. Soak your clothes, and then change into dry clothes and continue to stay warm, but not sweating (too much sweating can deplete the Qi!)

  • Gui Zhi Tang Tea- at the very early stages of a cold or flu, or after being out in the cold (like the kids outside playing sports after school in the winter) make this hot tea:

  1. juice of 1/2 lemon

  2. 1 tbs honey

  3. 2 pieces sliced, fresh ginger (each about the size of a quarter)

  4. 1/4 tsp cinamon

  • Epsom Salt Baths- Magnesium is very good for the immune system, and salt helps draw out toxins from the body. These aspects along with getting warm and opening the channels of the upper back and neck help rectify the proper flow of Qi in the Lungs and nasal passages, so that URI's do not form.

And of course... ACUPUNCTURE treatments help boost the immune system before, during, and after sickness!
